St. Joseph’s High School, Wadala
5th Feb 2013

Two days of the calendar carry great significance to all of us Indians – 15th August, the Independence Day of our motherland, and 26th January, the Republic Day of our country.  On 24th January, 2013 the students of the Pre-Primary and Primary Sections assembled in the school hall for the Republic Day celebration. The backdrop had a message that appealed to all:  'You Are The Future of India - In Unity We Find Our Strength'.

The young compere warmly welcomed the Chief Guest, Rev. Fr. Bernard Fernandes (Principal).  The program thereafter had all the ingredients of patriotic fervor and colorful celebrations. The students of Std. II expressed aloud the importance of Republic Day and spoke why this day plays an important role in the history of India's progress. They saluted the brave leaders of our country who fought for our freedom and praised the work done by our leaders to plan the Constitution of our country that we follow faithfully to this day.

The students of Std. III sang melodiously a beautiful song 'We Shall Overcome - Hum Hoonge Kameyab' to usher in the spirit of patriotism and with the conviction that we can, and will overcome all obstacles together as citizens of India.  Std. I students conveyed their love and loyalty to our motherland through the recital of the poem "My Country And Me'. Through their power-point presentation, the students of Std. IV brought Delhi closer to us by highlighting the celebrations of the Republic Day in the Capital.

Fr. Bernard addressing the students,  spoke about the problems faced by India today - corruption, poverty, etc. and the need to overcome them in our own little way just like the words of the song 'We Shall Overcome'. He thanked and congratulated all those who worked to make the Republic Day celebrations meaningful and wonderful!
